Hoover Police Press Conference: Statement by Carlee Russell's Attorney, Emery Anthony, Reveals Confession of False Abduction Story.

Carlee Russell May Face Criminal Charges as She Admits Abduction Story was False.

Carlee Russell, a 25-year-old woman, had claimed she was abducted by the side of a road in Alabama on the evening of July 13. She had called 911, stating that she had stopped to help a toddler in diapers who was walking alone on Interstate 459. However, she reappeared at her home two days later, alleging that she had been kidnapped and managed to escape.

But on Monday, Hoover Police Department Chief Nicholas Derzis revealed that Carlee Russell's attorney, Emory Anthony, provided a statement admitting that the kidnapping was a fabrication. The statement read, in part: "There was no kidnapping on Thursday, July 13. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road."

As a result of this confession, Hoover police are in discussions with the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office regarding potential criminal charges for the deceptive act. Chief Derzis stated that they would announce those charges if and when they are filed.

Carlee Russell's ex-boyfriend also expressed his surprise and disgust on social media after learning the truth about his former partner's lie.

Alabama authorities revealed at a press conference on Wednesday that Carlee Russell made a series of suspicious internet searches in the days leading up to her claim of being abducted. A forensic analysis of Ms. Russell's cell phone, work, and home computers uncovered searches related to the movie "Taken," Amber Alerts, booking a bus ticket from Birmingham to Nashville, and "how to take money from a register without being caught," according to Hoover Police Department's Nicholas Derzis.

These searches shed light on the 25-year-old's mindset prior to her claim of being kidnapped after allegedly seeing a toddler walking along the side of Interstate 459 on July 13. However, police were unable to verify Ms. Russell's allegations, and she has since declined to be interviewed, as stated by Mr. Derzis.
