BEIJING - The Chinese government has called on Japan to refrain from getting involved in the Taiwan issue, warning against any actions that could exacerbate tensions. The statement came in response to remarks made by a senior Japanese official regarding Taiwan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning conveyed this message on Tuesday.
Mao further emphasized that Taiwan is an integral part of China's territory, and the issue concerning Taiwan is solely an internal matter for China. China firmly opposes any external interference in this matter.
Mao expressed that the statements made by the incumbent high-level official of Japan's defense department are a clear and unacceptable interference in China's internal affairs, disregarding the basic norms of international relations and the principles outlined in the four political documents between China and Japan. These remarks have a detrimental impact on the political foundation of China-Japan relations.
China strongly condemns and firmly opposes these actions and has lodged a serious protest with Japan, Mao stated.
Highlighting Japan's history of colonial rule over Taiwan and the grave crimes committed against the Chinese people during that period, Mao emphasized the significant historical responsibilities that Japan bears. It is crucial for Japan to act with prudence and learn from its history.
Mao reiterated that the full reunification of the Chinese nation is a shared aspiration of all Chinese people and an inevitable historical process.
"No one should underestimate the unwavering determination, will, and capacity of the Chinese people to safeguard the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity," the spokesperson asserted.
"We strongly urge Japan to refrain from meddling in the Taiwan issue. Those who meddle in sensitive matters will ultimately face the consequences of their actions," Mao concluded.
