Embraer of Brazil Unveils Plan for Electric Flying Taxi Factory near Sao Paulo

Embraer Announces New Factory near Sao Paulo for Production of Electric Flying Taxis, Set to Launch in 2026

Embraer's subsidiary Eve to Manufacture Electric Flying Taxis Resembling Small Helicopters with Seating for Six Passengers

Eve, a subsidiary of Embraer, is set to produce electric flying taxis that will resemble small helicopters and have a capacity for up to six customers. The company envisions that each trip will cost around $50 to $100 per person (£39 to £78). Remarkably, Eve has already received orders for nearly 3,000 air taxis.

Embraer plans to establish a prototype assembly this year for its electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, with hopes of launching air taxis by 2026. US regulators have also set a timeline for air taxis to be operational by 2025. These electric aircraft, resembling small helicopters, will not require runways and can cover long distances like airplanes. They are expected to offer reduced noise and pollution compared to traditional planes.

The introduction of air taxis is seen as a potential solution to alleviate traffic congestion in urban areas and provide an affordable transportation option for customers. Additionally, these aircraft could serve as an alternative for transporting cargo.

The new factory will be constructed in Taubate, approximately 140km (87 miles) from Sao Paulo, Brazil's major economic hub. Initially, the drone-like passenger vehicles will be integrated into taxi fleets, and early flights will involve a pilot. However, the company also plans to introduce self-piloted vehicles in the future.

One of the key advantages of these vehicles is that they will be powered by electric motors, ensuring emission-free flights.
