Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Review: Many Hits, but a Few Misses
The OnePlus Nord 3, OnePlus 11R, and iQoo Neo 7 Pro have one thing in common: they all fall under the Rs. 40,000 price range in India and focus on providing flagship-grade performance. The premium mid-range smartphone segment has recently seen a surge of new launches, and now we have the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G joining the lineup. Priced at Rs. 39,999, the Reno 10 Pro 5G sits between the baseline Reno 10 5G and the top-of-the-line Reno 10 Pro+ 5G.
While most competitors emphasize value-for-money performance, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G sets itself apart with some unique features. But is it worth considering? Read on for our comprehensive review to help you make an informed decision.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Price in India:
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G is available in India with a single storage option, offering 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at Rs. 39,999.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Design and Display
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G is available in two eye-catching color options: Silvery Grey and Glossy Purple. We got our hands on the latter, which stands out compared to the usual green and black shades of most recent phones. The phone features a gracefully curved rear panel and frame, offering a sleek and stylish look. The glass back adds to the premium feel when holding the Oppo Reno 10 Pro. Additionally, the phone's slim and lightweight build contributes to its comfortable in-hand experience. With a thickness of approximately 7.89mm and weighing 185g, it feels quite manageable.
However, the smooth finish of the back can be a bit slippery at times, causing the phone to slip out of hands. Nonetheless, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro is undeniably an attractive device, giving the impression of a much more expensive smartphone. The shiny metallic finish also does an excellent job of concealing fingerprints and smudges. While the rear panel is crafted from glass, the chassis is made of plastic. The phone's power and volume buttons are conveniently placed on the right edge, easily accessible for users with larger hands.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Design and Display
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G boasts a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and a 20.1:9 aspect ratio. Similar to other premium smartphones like the Vivo V27 Pro, OnePlus 11R, and even some more affordable options like the Motorola Edge 40, the display on the Reno 10 Pro 5G features curved edges. Fortunately, during my usage, I did not encounter any issues with ghost touches or accidental touches while scrolling or playing games on the phone.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Audio Experience
One aspect that disappointed me was the single-speaker setup. Considering the smartphone's price range, it is expected to have a good dual-speaker setup. It's unfortunate that Oppo opted to include only a single speaker in the Reno 10 Pro 5G. Additionally, there is no 3.5mm headphone jack, which might be a letdown for users who prefer using wired headphones.
On the bright side, the single speaker is quite loud, but the audio experience lacks the immersive quality that a dual-speaker setup or headphone jack could offer.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Display and Software
On the positive side, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G comes with a 120Hz display that offers up to 950 nits of peak brightness when viewing HDR content. The display supports HDR playback on YouTube, although not yet on Netflix at the time of this review. The 10-bit vibrant display offers support for a billion colors, providing a visually pleasing experience. Oppo has utilized an AGC Dragontrail Star 2 glass, known to provide 20 percent better drop resistance compared to Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
While using the device with the refresh rate set to Auto Switch, I didn't encounter any major stutters while navigating through the user interface. However, there were some minor software-related issues that will be discussed in the next section.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Specifications and Software
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 778G SoC with an Adreno 642L GPU. It is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery and supports 80W SuperVOOC fast charging. The phone includes connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-SIM support, an IR emitter, and more. In India, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G offers 14 5G bands.
In terms of software, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G runs on the latest ColorOS 13.1, based on Android 13. Over the years, Oppo's ColorOS has been popular for its personalization and customization options. The Reno 10 Pro continues to provide users with the ability to change wallpapers, adjust front shape and size, modify icon shape and size, and more.
Additionally, ColorOS 13.1 includes support for Android 13's Material You theme, which matches the system and UI colors with the wallpaper's colors. Oppo also offers a range of featured color options for UI and system icons in the Settings app, allowing users to further customize their experience. However, it's worth noting that ColorOS 13.1 comes with app recommendations and ads integrated throughout the user interface. Users may encounter these recommendations and ads during the set-up process, on the app drawer and home screen filled with pre-installed apps, and even in the default browser app. Moreover, there are some not-so-popular games and third-party apps that come pre-installed on the device. Oppo's native App Store, App Market, also sends multiple notifications suggesting users install certain applications.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Software Optimization and Performance
Oppo appears to be responsive to user feedback and has acknowledged that unwanted apps requesting installation permission during the initial phone setup will be removed in the upcoming software update to enhance user experience. However, native app recommendation folders like Hot Games and Hot Apps will still be available, although users can hide these folders if desired. Oppo provides an option to disable recommendations spam by accessing notification settings.
Nevertheless, some optimization issues were noticed during usage. The screen orientation changed automatically, even when the Auto-rotate option was disabled, and minor jitters were observed while returning to the homescreen. These issues will hopefully be addressed by Oppo in the near future. The Oppo Reno 10 Pro is promised to receive two major Android updates and three years of security support.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Performance and Battery Life
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro features a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC, commonly found in smartphones priced around Rs. 30,000 in India. While it may not be the most powerful phone in its segment, routine tasks like social media browsing, messaging, content consumption, and app loading are handled smoothly by the chipset.
Casual gaming is also possible, but in terms of gaming performance and value, competitors like the OnePlus Nord 3, OnePlus 11R, and iQoo Neo 7 Pro offer better options in the same price range. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) supports 'HDR' graphics and 'Ultra' framerate settings, but playing with the highest settings may result in some stutter. Lowering the graphics settings to 'Balanced' or 'HD' can improve gameplay performance. Asphalt 9: Legends, on the other hand, runs smoothly on the device.
RAM management is efficient, with apps continuing to load from where they were last accessed. The Reno 10 Pro also offers the flexibility of up to 8GB of virtual RAM, which is allocated from the 256GB internal memory.
Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Camera and Battery Performance
I also conducted benchmark tests on the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G. It scored 5,89.206 points on AnTuTu (v10). In Geekbench 6, the phone achieved a score of 1,013 in the single-core test and 2,669 points in the multi-core test. While benchmark scores are not the sole indicator of a phone's performance, it does reveal that raw performance is not the Reno 10 Pro's strongest suit when compared to the competition, with the iQoo Neo 7 Pro scoring significantly higher on AnTuTu (v10) at 1,263,884 points.
However, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G delivers impressive battery life, easily lasting a full day. On average, I achieved a screen-on time (SoT) of about 8 hours and 20 minutes. Even with over two hours of gameplay, the phone managed a SoT of approximately 6 hours and 50 minutes. In the HD video battery loop test, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro lasted an impressive 20 hours and 44 minutes. Thanks to the 80W SuperVOOC charger, the battery can be fully recharged in around 29 minutes.
Moving on to the camera capabilities, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G boasts a triple-camera setup on the back. The 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) delivers high-quality images with true-to-life colors. The dynamic range performance is generally good, although there were instances where exposure in the shadows was suboptimal. The phone's night mode captures well-exposed shots with minimal noise, maintaining details in both highlights and shadows. Overall, the Reno 10 Pro's primary camera performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions, making it one of the best in its segment.

Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G Camera Performance
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G comes equipped with an ultra-wide camera that exhibits a slightly warmer color temperature compared to the main camera. While there may be a lack of details, particularly around the edges, the camera performs well in terms of colors and dynamic range. Additionally, the phone features a 2X telephoto camera, which is not as common in this segment. The telephoto camera's performance is impressive, offering good details and dynamic range. However, there is still room for improvement, and the telephoto images exhibit slightly cooler color tones compared to the primary camera's samples.
The portrait mode's edge detection is excellent, but the primary camera's portrait mode can make human skin appear a bit reddish. On the other hand, the telephoto camera's portrait mode delivers impressive results with regards to colors, edge detection, and details. However, it's important to note that there is a shutter lag when taking portrait mode shots, so you need to keep the phone steady and ensure that the subject remains still until you hear the shutter sound.
The front camera of the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G performs decently in terms of capturing accurate skin tones. However, the edge detection in portrait mode shots can be a hit or miss, as I observed the algorithm blurring out parts of my ear and hair. In low-light conditions, portrait mode shots still manage to expose the subject well and provide good background blur, but the details appear slightly soft.
The Oppo Reno 10 Pro is a standout smartphone under Rs. 40,000 with its impressive design and build quality. It boasts a sleek and unique appearance, providing a premium in-hand feel. The phone's display and battery life are commendable, offering a smooth experience.
However, in terms of performance, it falls short compared to some of its competitors in the same price range, which offer better value for money. The highlight of the Reno 10 Pro 5G is its versatile camera system, particularly the high-quality telephoto lens, making it stand out in this aspect.
On the downside, the software experience does not match the premium pricing, with issues such as app recommendations and ads on the user interface. Moreover, the phone lacks an IP rating for water and dust resistance and features only a single speaker, which may not provide the most immersive audio experience.
In summary, if you prioritize a phone with a flagship-grade design and display, as well as a versatile camera setup, the Oppo Reno 10 Pro 5G could be a suitable choice. However, if you value premium performance, a smooth software experience, and are not particularly concerned about having a telephoto camera, there are several other options to consider, such as the OnePlus 11R, OnePlus Nord 3, and iQoo Neo 7 Pro.
