15 people lost their lives and 36 individuals sustained injuries in Mexico when a migrant-carrying bus collided with a freight truck.

The incident occurred on a central Mexican highway commonly utilized by smugglers for the transportation of migrants.




On Tuesday, a bus transporting both Mexican and Venezuelan migrants collided with a freight truck in central Mexico, resulting in the tragic loss of 16 lives and injuries to 36 individuals, according to local authorities.


The National Immigration Institute revealed that out of the deceased, 15 were Mexican nationals, while one was a Venezuelan citizen. Among the wounded, nine were Venezuelans who had scheduled appointments on the CBP app for asylum applications at the U.S. border.


The incident occurred early Tuesday on a highway leading south towards Oaxaca state. This particular route is commonly exploited by smugglers for migrant transportation.


Back in July, a van carrying five Honduran migrants met with a crash on a road along Mexico's southern Gulf coast, resulting in five fatalities and 18 injuries.


In February, a tragic incident took place in Puebla where a bus carrying migrants crashed, resulting in the loss of 17 lives.


Migrants often rely on trucks and buses to journey through Mexico as they make their way towards the U.S. border.


In 2021, a devastating accident occurred when a truck transporting migrants overturned on a highway close to the southern city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, resulting in the tragic death of 56 individuals.
