Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo initiated discussions with Chinese governmental representatives during the most recent visit undertaken by a prominent U.S. official to the globe's second-largest economic powerhouse.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo initiated discussions with Chinese government officials on Monday, underlining the "profound importance" of maintaining a steady economic relationship between the world's two largest economies.

Raimondo aims to enhance commercial connections as American enterprises have reported growing difficulties in conducting operations within China, even as China has strongly criticized U.S. endeavors to hinder its access to cutting-edge semiconductor technology.

Raimondo emphasized that the global community anticipates a reliable economic rapport between the United States and China, considering the annual trade volume of over $700 billion shared between the two nations.

She acknowledged, "Navigating this relationship can be challenging. Disagreements on certain matters are to be expected." Raimondo expressed optimism that constructive strides can be taken through candid, transparent, and pragmatic dialogue.

During her three-day series of discussions with Chinese officials and business leaders to reinforce ties, Raimondo was scheduled to meet with Commerce Minister Wang Wentao for approximately two hours on Monday.

Wang asserted that the economic ties between the U.S. and China hold significance not only for the involved nations but also for the global community. He conveyed his appreciation for Raimondo's favorable view on trading with China.

He affirmed his readiness to collaborate in creating "a more conducive policy environment that promotes stronger cooperation between our businesses, thereby enhancing bilateral trade and investment through stable and predictable means.

Raimondo remarked that throughout the summer, both the United States and China have been actively involved in establishing novel channels of information exchange and collaborative forums. These mechanisms are intended to foster more consistent and engaged interactions within their relationship.

Certain Republicans within Congress have expressed criticism regarding the proposition of the United States entering into a collaborative working group with China concerning export controls on advanced semiconductor chips.

Raimondo has firmly asserted that any discourse concerning U.S. export limitations designed to impede Beijing's military advancements is strictly off-limits. She emphasized that matters pertaining to national security are non-negotiable and ineligible for compromise. She further clarified that the vast majority of these measures do not pose a threat to national security concerns.

As an illustrative instance, Raimondo was scheduled to partake in a visit to a personal care product showcase in China later on Monday.
