Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, expressed his readiness for a potential cage fight with Elon Musk, the head of Tesla and owner of Twitter (now rebranded as X). In a post on Meta's newly introduced social media platform, Threads, Mr. Zuckerberg suggested August 26 as the date for the bout in response to Mr. Musk's challenge.
"I'm prepared today. I proposed Aug 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn't confirmed. I'm not holding my breath," stated the Meta chief, signaling his eagerness while acknowledging the uncertainty of the match's confirmation.
Earlier on Sunday, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, revealed his preparations for the potential fight, stating that he was "lifting weights throughout the day."
Mr. Musk also mentioned that the fight, if it takes place, would be live-streamed on X (previously known as Twitter) and that all proceeds generated from the event would be donated to a charity benefiting veterans. "Zuck v Musk fight will be live-streamed on X... All proceeds will go to charity for veterans," Mr. Musk tweeted on Sunday.
The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, humorously suggested that they could use "a more reliable platform" for the cage match, one that has the capability to raise funds for charity, hinting at the built-in fundraising feature of Facebook and Instagram.
The idea of the cage match was initiated when Elon Musk, in response to a tweet discussing the Twitter rival Threads, made a remark about the world becoming "exclusively under Zuck's thumb with no other options." In jest, a Twitter user warned Elon Musk about his rival's jiu-jitsu training.
"I'm up for a cage match if he is lol," responded Mr. Musk to the user's comment.
When asked about the purpose of the fight with his rival, the CEO of Tesla replied, "It's a civilized form of war," implying a playful competition between them.
Over the next few days, the two tech rivals engaged in multiple exchanges on social media, leading to an agreement to challenge each other in a cage match.
As the anticipated confrontation approached, Mr. Zuckerberg revealed that he had constructed an octagon in the garden outside his house, indicating his preparation for the cage match. However, this decision seemingly did not sit well with his wife, Priscilla Chan.
"I have been working on that grass for two years," Ms. Chan expressed, as per a screenshot of their conversation shared by the CEO of Meta.
