Rockstar Games has joined forces with a well-known mod development team to introduce official backing for roleplay servers in their games. In a recent announcement, Rockstar revealed its collaboration with the Cfx.re team, the makers of modding tools like FiveM and RedM. These tools empower players to craft and engage in unique, tailored experiences within titles such as Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
While Rockstar has declared that Cfx.re is now an official member of Rockstar Games, the specifics of this partnership remain somewhat unclear. The official statement did not elaborate on the details of how this integration is taking place.
In an official forum post, Cfx.re has announced its integration into Rockstar Games, expressing excitement about enhancing the FiveM platform. However, any inquiries about GTA 6 remain off-limits.
Rockstar Games recently modified its modding policy, notably regarding roleplay servers. The updated policies encourage the development of "reasonable" expansions that creatively build upon the games and can be operated via third-party server platforms.
Yet, Rockstar remains strict against the creation of "new games, stories, missions, or maps" using its intellectual property. It also prohibits any financial gains from its games, such as loot boxes or cryptocurrency distribution. This policy aligns with the rejection of the VR mod that Rockstar deemed unacceptable.
The modding community, especially in Grand Theft Auto V, continues to push boundaries. Platforms like FiveM have spawned immersive experiences, including a gangster roleplay with permanent consequences, forcing participants to consider actions carefully due to the stakes involved.
