Russian MFA dismisses US speculations about guarantees for Kiev as wordplay.

MOSCOW, August 2. /TASS/. Speculations surrounding the initiation of negotiations on Washington's security guarantees for Kiev are merely a manipulation of words, designed to maintain Ukraine as an anti-Russian stronghold, stated Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, during a news briefing.

"This is nothing more than playing with words, aiming to create bombastic, pseudo-academic definitions. The core message remains the same: Ukraine is being exploited as an instrument in the West's anti-Russian hybrid warfare. Secondly, the goal is to retain Ukrainian territory as a stronghold in the most direct sense," Zakharova remarked.

She emphasized that Ukraine's potential membership in NATO or any decision to establish security guarantees would lead to uncontrollable consequences.

"Anything that can be interpreted as association with this organization will significantly complicate the situation surrounding the Ukrainian crisis and result in uncontrollable consequences for security in Europe and globally," she highlighted.

"It is important to bear in mind that for the US, Ukraine is primarily a means to achieve geopolitical objectives. Sooner or later, Washington will have to come to terms with the new geopolitical realities and bid farewell to its hegemonic ambitions," Zakharova added.

Earlier, the US administration confirmed that the United States and Ukraine would commence negotiations this week on Washington's security guarantees to Kiev. The talks will be conducted virtually.
