Police searches are ongoing at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, the former home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, according to Thames Valley Police.

The former prince was arrested on Thursday at about 08:00 GMT on the King's Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where he has been staying, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was taken to a Norfolk police station for questioning.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was released under investigation on Thursday evening, after spending much of his 66th birthday in custody, as reported by BBC News.

Police Response

Thames Valley Police said that, in addition to the arrest, it was "carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk". Unmarked police vehicles were seen arriving at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk before Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest.

In an updated statement following Andrew's release, Thames Valley Police said its searches in Norfolk "have now concluded".

Investigation Underway

The arrest came after Thames Valley Police said it was assessing a complaint over the alleged sharing of confidential material by the former prince with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The former prince has consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing.

According to Dal Babu, a former Metropolitan Police chief superintendent, by arresting the King's brother, officers will be able to "access computer equipment, files, photographs, any other evidence" and "carry out searches of any premises he owns or occupies, or any other premises he controls".

Line of Succession

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is 8th in line for the throne. However, there are many younger royals in line ahead of him, making it near impossible he would ever become king.

Parliament would have to pass legislation to remove him from the line of succession, which would require the support of all Commonwealth countries that have King Charles as their head of state.

Official Statement

The King has said "the law must take its course", following the arrest of his brother. In a statement, the King said: "I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office."
