The Moscow Region governor has visited the explosion site in the urban district of Sergiyev Posad, where reports indicate a human-related incident caused a blast at a fireworks warehouse near Moscow, according to emergency services.
On Wednesday, emergency services informed TASS that the explosion was triggered by human actions. The blast resulted in the destruction of a hangar spanning 1,600 square meters on the premises of a private firm within the factory's compound.
As confirmed by healthcare services to TASS, the count of individuals injured in the explosion has risen to 16.
The explosion occurred within the vicinity of the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant, leading to shattered windows in multiple residential buildings across various parts of the town. A complete evacuation has been ordered at the establishment.
Andrey Vorobyov, the Governor of the Moscow Region, has visited the site of the explosion in the Sergiyev Posad urban district. As indicated by emergency services to TASS, preliminary information suggests that the warehouse explosion was not caused by a drone attack.
The storage facility housing fireworks was situated within the premises of the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant. This factory is a constituent of the Shvabe Holding Company, operating under the state technological corporation Rostec. It serves as a contemporary innovative enterprise and holds a prominent role as a primary developer and manufacturer of optical and optoelectronic devices catering to defense, security, law enforcement agencies, industries, and healthcare institutions.
As per information provided by the enterprise, the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant has been actively involved in the production of observation, medical, and ophthalmic devices since 1935, alongside recent endeavors in dosimetry equipment and technical security tools.
