Ukraine Condemns Fresh Wave of Russian Strikes Amid Ongoing Peace Talks

Ukraine has strongly condemned a recent wave of Russian strikes that left one person dead and 23 others injured. The attack occurred overnight, just as delegations from Russia, Ukraine, and the US were set to resume talks in Abu Dhabi aimed at ending the war.

Trilateral Talks Continue Amid Ongoing Violence

Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, described the attack as "brutal" and stated that it had "hit not only our people, but also the negotiation table." The three-way talks, which resumed in Abu Dhabi, have seen some progress made, but the key issue of territory remains unresolved. A source close to the negotiations told the BBC that while progress was made, the core issue of territory continues to hinder a resolution.

Assaults Cause Widespread Damage and Injuries

The mayor of Ukrainian capital Kyiv reported that one person died and four were wounded in the overnight assault. In Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov stated that 19 people were injured during a sustained assault on the city in the early hours of Saturday morning. A maternity hospital and a hostel for displaced people were damaged in the attack.

Ukraine Reiterates Opposition to Russian Demands

Ukraine has reiterated its refusal to hand over large areas of territory to Russia. The Kremlin has demanded that Ukraine cede significant portions of land, including parts of the eastern Donbas region, which Russia occupies. Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that the main target of the Russian strikes was the energy infrastructure, leaving 6,000 buildings without heating in the capital city.
