England has beaten Scotland by five wickets in a T20 World Cup match in India, recovering their position in the group. The match was held at the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.

Tom Banton’s unbeaten 63 led England to victory, keeping Harry Brook’s side on course for the Super Eights. England will play their final Group C match against Italy on Monday at the same stadium.

After bowling Scotland out for 152, England scored 155-5 in 18.2 overs, with Jacob Bethell scoring 32 and Sam Curran 28. Will Jacks hit a six and a four to finish the job.

Scotland captain Richie Berrington top-scored for his team with 49 off 32 balls, including five fours and two sixes. However, England’s bowlers exerted control, with Jofra Archer making early breakthroughs and finishing with 2-24 off his four overs.

Adil Rashid was the best of the England bowlers, taking 3-36 from his four overs, while Liam Dawson took 2-34. England wobbled at the start of their chase but recovered to win with 10 balls to spare.

The ministry of sports in India stated that the match was held under tight security. Authorities said the stadium was packed with fans from both countries.

Witnesses told local media that the atmosphere was tense but peaceful. The force reported no major incidents during the match.
