Team GB's men's curling team, led by Bruce Mouat, has been denied Olympic gold for the second successive Olympics, losing 9-6 to Canada in the final.

Mouat, along with teammates Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan, and Bobby Lammie, arrived in Cortina as world champions and favourites to win the gold medal. However, they will leave with silver, their second consecutive Olympic silver medal.

The team's journey to the final was not straightforward, with a shock early exit looming as recently as Thursday. They recovered to guarantee a medal but ultimately fell short of their desired goal.

Response from Team GB

A tear-choked Mouat told BBC Sport, 'I'm a bit in shock. I think we felt like we were the better team. I don't know what to say.' Teammate Grant Hardie added, 'We wanted to win it for each other. The pain from four years ago was so much that we wanted to give it another go. We gave ourselves a chance but unfortunately we've not got there again.'

Match Details

The match saw Canada draw level after seven ends, before capitalising on some slack stones in the ninth to lead 8-6 going into the last. Mouat had the hammer but was unable to force an extra end, and Canada took the gold medal.
