Saatva's Memory Foam Hybrid mattress has been chosen to support Team USA at the 2006 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, and will also be the official mattress provider for the LA 2028 Summer Games. This is a deliberate move by the brand to showcase its products, which include special winter bundles for Team USA Hockey and US Figure Skating.

As reported by Wired, Saatva's mattresses have been furnished in the dorms at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Athletes will provide feedback on their sleeping experience, which will be taken into account for the next Games.

Inside the Mattress

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid features natural materials, reinforced edge support, and hyper-focused lumbar support. It also includes a botanical antimicrobial treatment on the cover and is both CertiPur-US-certified memory foam and GreenGuard Gold certified.

The mattress has a unique design, with an inch and a half of proprietary AirCradle memory foam under the organic cotton blend cover. This foam is meant to improve airflow and contouring, addressing common complaints about memory foam.

The Technology Behind the Mattress

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid uses pocked steel coils to support the lower back, with each coil able to push back independently based on the weight on top of it. This provides firm support around the midsection while remaining softer everywhere else.

The mattress also features high-density foam rails that keep the sleeper fully supported to the edge of the mattress. This design provides a firm feel and visual representation of what's underneath, making it ideal for back support.

However, the pressure relief was not as standout as expected, and the mattress felt firmer than its advertised medium-firm feel. This may be due to the design prioritizing back support over pressure relief.

Implications for Sleepers

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is well-suited for back and stomach sleepers, providing excellent spinal alignment support and light cushioning for pressure points. However, side sleepers may find it lacking in pressure relief, and may benefit from the addition of a mattress topper.

The mattress maintains a bouncy feel and good motion isolation, making it suitable for couples. However, it does not offer a cooling feel, instead staying temperature-neutral.

Overall, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is a high-quality mattress with a generous trial period and lifetime warranty. While it may not be ideal for all sleepers, it is a serious contender for those prioritizing temperature regulation, responsiveness, lumbar support, and durability.
