The US President Donald Trump has criticized the justices of the US Supreme Court, calling them an 'embarrassment to their families' in a 45-minute address to the media at the White House.

Trump's comments came after the Supreme Court struck down trade tariffs imposed by the White House, with a 6-3 decision by the court on Friday. The President specifically targeted Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, whom he appointed to the court during his first term.

Trump stated, 'I think it’s an embarrassment to their families, you wanna know the truth, the two of them.' He also expressed shame towards certain members of the court, saying 'I’m ashamed of certain members of the court – absolutely ashamed – for not having the courage to do what’s right for our country.'

Reaction from the Vice President

Vice President JD Vance also criticized the justices, accusing them of 'lawlessness' in a post on X. Vance wrote, 'Today, the Supreme Court decided that Congress, despite giving the president the ability to ‘regulate imports’, didn’t actually mean it.' He added, 'This is lawlessness from the Court, plain and simple.'

Trump praised the three dissenting justices, saying 'I’d like to thank and congratulate Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Brett Kavanaugh for their strength and wisdom and love of our country, which is, right now, very proud of those justices.' The President also claimed that the Supreme Court 'has been swayed by foreign interests', without providing evidence.

The Supreme Court's decision has sparked a strong reaction from the White House, with both Trump and Vance launching personal attacks on the justices. The US Supreme Court currently has six members appointed by Trump’s Republican Party and has often ruled in favour of his administration’s policies.
