BKR Capital has raised $14.5 million for its Fund II, bringing it closer to its $50 million target.

The Canada-based firm invests in high-growth technology companies led by Black founders, focusing on the future of work, living, and global connectivity, according to managing partner Lise Birikundavyi.

BKR Capital is looking to back companies in Canada and select global businesses, with an average check size of $250,000 to $1.5 million.

The Funding Round

Birikundavyi noted that 70% of Canada's Black population are first or second-generation immigrants, resulting in founders who build globally from day one, unlocking early access to international markets.

The firm's thesis is rooted in the belief that overlooked markets and diverse lived experiences can unlock outsized venture opportunities.

Market Context

Birikundavyi said that investors in Canada still see inclusive investment as good for the ecosystem and full of potentially lucrative business opportunities, prioritizing discussion on performance.

BKR Capital launched in 2021 and raised $22 million for its Fund I, which is performing better than at least 75% of other funds launched around the same time.

Company Background

The firm hopes to make its final close for Fund II in December and invest in 25 companies, expanding access to overlooked founders and surfacing high-quality deals.
