Anaheim, Calif. — Caliwater, a beverage company co-founded by actor Oliver Trevna, is expanding its operations with a new CEO and additional celebrity investors.
According to Trevna, Caliwater was founded with the idea of providing an alternative to coconut water and sports drinks with added electrolytes, less sugar, and fewer calories. The company's products are based on the prickly pear cactus, which Trevna calls "Mother Nature's super fruit."
The company has a long list of celebrity investors, including actress Vanessa Hudgens, musician Demi Lovato, and actors Glen Powell, Gerard Butler, and Cody Bellinger. Earlier this week, Caliwater added musician Benson Boone as an investor and partner.
Expansion Plans
Caliwater has plans to expand its operations to Canada and has recently launched its products in kids pouches. The company is also tapping its first CEO, Blair Owens, former chief executive of flavored water upstart Hint.
Owens, who also held leadership and marketing roles at Coca-Cola and Monster, will help the company scale its operations. Trevna said in a statement that Owens "understands how to scale brands with intention, build high-performing teams, and execute with discipline."
Market Trends
The hydration category has made a significant impact in recent years, with more consumers turning to beverages for health benefits. Hydration drinks like coconut water have especially benefited, with Vita Coco aiming to cross the $1 billion sales threshold in the next five years.
Trevna said at the Natural Products Expo West conference in Anaheim that "hydration and health is a massive factor for whatever country you live in, but especially in the U.S." He added that Caliwater's goal is to provide a drink that is both enjoyable and healthy.
Product Offerings
Caliwater offers a range of flavors, including ginger and lime, pineapple, and watermelon. The company is also positioning its products as a mixer for alcoholic beverages or mocktails.
Caliwater is available in the U.S. and Mexico, and the company is eyeing Canada for its next expansion. With its new CEO and celebrity backing, Caliwater is looking to scale its operations and make a bigger impact in the beverage industry.
