Mercedes secured a front-row lock-out for the Chinese Grand Prix, despite showing hints of vulnerability in qualifying.
According to a report by the BBC, Kimi Antonelli became the youngest F1 driver to achieve pole position, beating Sebastian Vettel's record from 2008.
Antonelli and championship leader George Russell experienced technical issues, but still managed to outpace the Ferraris of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Qualifying Results
Hamilton was 0.351 seconds slower than Antonelli, narrowing the gap to pole compared to previous qualifying sessions.
Russell's qualifying was compromised by a front-wing failure and technical problems, but he still beat Hamilton by 0.129 seconds.
Driver Reactions
Lewis Hamilton stated, "It's highly unlikely that we will be able to beat them in the race," citing Mercedes' 0.4-0.6 seconds race pace advantage.
George Russell acknowledged Ferrari's potential, saying, "We know Ferrari are quick off the line and we've got them in P3 and P4, which is the first time of the season."
Race Expectations
The early laps of the race may feature a battle between Mercedes and Ferrari drivers, with Ferrari's strong starts and cornering speed potentially challenging Mercedes.
However, Mercedes' straight-line speed is expected to give them an advantage as the race progresses.
