The ongoing turmoil in the Middle East has led to a significant increase in crude oil prices, with the cost rising to over $100 a barrel on Monday.

According to the BBC, the conflict is a key factor in the price surge, with the closure of nearly all airspace in the region following US-Israeli attacks on Iran.

The Emirates flight was the first in a number of days to operate in the area, while a timelapse of marine traffic shows a decrease in ship flow through the Strait of Hormuz.

US Military Action

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the US military has sunk an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean using a torpedo.

Secretary Hegseth also confirmed that the US is investigating reports of a school bombing in Iran.

International Response

US President Donald Trump criticized the Spanish government for blocking the use of its bases during the attack on Iran, and also criticized UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's initial response to the US-Israeli strikes.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that a drone struck a parking lot adjacent to the US consulate building in Dubai.

Escalating Conflict

The conflict in the region continues to escalate, with Iran targeting the US Navy base in Bahrain and highlighting gaps in air defenses.

US President Donald Trump warned of potential further US deaths, following the death of three US service members in action on the second day of the US-Israel attack on Iran.
