The WIRED Guide to Las Vegas for Business Travelers

As a city, Las Vegas is a Rorschach test, a depiction of the inner self turned outward by forces great, gaudy, and frankly ridiculous. For business travelers, it's a spectacle, a sham, a show, and a topic upon which no one is opinionless.

Las Vegas has a long history of attracting travelers from the worlds of tech and science, and the city itself is something of a technological marvel. The Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, is held here each January, as is Enterprise Connect, the DEF CON hacker conference, and countless more.

Inside the Hotels

The Wynn is a self-contained oasis of class and dignity in a city not necessarily known for either. The Venetian, on the other hand, is a hotel that has split the atom in terms of energy, excitement, popularity, and modern amenities. For those looking for a more retro experience, The Plaza is a blast—a little grittier than the strip, a little more retro, but quite a lot of fun.

The Tech Scene

Innevation, a vast, 65,000-square-foot coworking space and event venue near the airport, is a hub for the Vegas tech industry. IncuBase, another coworking setup, offers small-, medium-, and large-group-sized office spaces, day passes, and ample parking. Bottega Exchange, a community-oriented coworking space, serves as an “office away from the office” for the Las Vegas tech and small business community.

Food and Drink

Las Vegas is one of the best restaurant cities in America, full stop. From the quick-service, low-cost Mediterranean restaurant Miznon to the genre-defining Indian restaurant Tamba, there's a “best choice” for nearly every moment. For drinks, the city offers a range of options, from the outstanding new cocktail bar Jipata to the iconic Peppermill.

Arts and Culture

Vegas is home to tons of arts and culture, both high-end and not-so-high-end. The Mob Museum, The Neon Museum, and the Pinball Museum are just a few examples of the unique experiences the city has to offer. The Sphere, a brand-new venue, represents something like an only-here experience that's very much worth seeing for yourself at least once.
