A UK cabinet minister has disputed Israel's claim that Iran has long-range missiles capable of reaching London.
Housing Secretary Steve Reed told the BBC that there is 'no specific assessment that the Iranians are targeting the UK - or even could if they wanted to'.
This comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that Tehran had weapons that could reach up to 4,000km (2,485 miles), according to a report by the BBC.
Iran's Missile Capabilities
Iran's foreign minister has said that the country has deliberately capped its missiles' range at 2,000km, as 'we don't want to be felt as a threat by anybody else in the world'.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that Iran has the 'capacity to reach deep into Europe'.
UK Response
Reed has refused to say how close the missiles came to the British overseas territory of Diego Garcia, saying he could not share 'operational details'.
The UK government has allowed British airbases to be used for strikes on sites targeting UK interests and allies in the region.
Investigation and Reactions
Israel is investigating how ballistic missiles got through the country's sophisticated air defences.
Sir Richard Shirreff, a retired British Army general and former Nato commander, has said that Israel's claims about Iranian capabilities should be taken 'seriously, but as seriously as the potential for Russian missiles to come this way as well'.
The Liberal Democrats and Green Party have said that the UK's involvement in the conflict risks being broadened, and are demanding that Parliament should be given a vote on allowing the US to use British bases for strikes.
