A UK cabinet minister has disputed Israel's claim that Iran has long-range missiles capable of reaching London.
Housing Secretary Steve Reed told the BBC that there is 'no specific assessment that the Iranians are targeting the UK - or even could if they wanted to'.
This comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Tehran had weapons with a range of up to 4,000km (2,485 miles), which could potentially reach London.
Background on the Conflict
Conflict has spread across the Middle East since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on 28 February.
Iran reportedly fired two ballistic missiles at a joint US-UK military base on the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, around 3,800km from Iran.
UK Minister's Response
Reed refused to provide details on how close the missiles came to the British territory, citing 'operational details'.
He insisted that the UK is 'perfectly capable of protecting this country and keeping this country safe'.
Iran's Missile Capability
The longest-range weapon in Iran's arsenal is thought to have a maximum range of 2,000km, far short of both Diego Garcia and London.
Israel is investigating how ballistic missiles got through the country's sophisticated air defences.
