Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has become the quickest to reach 100 victories in the club's history, achieving this milestone in 181 games.
According to reports from TNT Sports, Emery's side defeated Lille in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, securing his 100th win as Aston Villa manager.
Emery, who aims to win the Europa League for a record-extending fifth time, has made Villa a force at home and in Europe since his appointment in October 2022.
Managerial Record
Emery has the best win ratio in Aston Villa's history at 55.2%, surpassing the records of previous managers, including Ron Saunders, who reached the century mark at the end of the 1977-78 season.
His tally of 100 wins from 181 games eclipses Saunders' record, who achieved the milestone in his fourth season in charge.
Team Performance
Villa's decision to appoint Emery was a sign of their ambition to make a mark on the European stage, and success in the Europa League would deliver a Champions League berth next term.
Speaking to TNT Sports, returning captain John McGinn said the result had provided Villa with a "building block" and the opportunity to "reset" after a difficult few weeks.
Upcoming Fixtures
Villa will face Manchester United on Sunday in a crucial league match, and Emery used the struggles of their Premier League rivals in the Champions League as a motivational tool before the Lille match.
Emery stated, "We respect this competition because we know the difficulties of each match away from home in Europe."
